About Me
In a Nutshell:
My name is Laura Kuipers and I’m a copywriter with a background in Primary Education. I was born and raised in the UK; I lived in the Netherlands for 8 years and I’m currently living in Italy with no plans to leave the blue skies and delicious food anytime soon.
I was a class teacher for 14 years and English Coordinator for 6 years. My experience in education means that I am adept at thinking flexibly, as well as proficient at managing my time between two roles within the busy school environment.
But above all else, I am a lover of words and I have been passionate about helping people to understand the power that words can hold and how to use them to communicate their thoughts, ideas and feelings. This passion means that I will be able to help your business to find its authentic voice and to deliver the message you want to put out into the world.
With the right words, you can achieve anything.
A Little More Detail:
I moved to Italy, with my husband, daughter and little Yorkshire Terrier, Archie. While here, I’m developing my copywriting business, as well as becoming a connoisseur of pasta, pizza and Prosecco.
Before moving to Italy, I lived and worked in the Netherlands (my husband is Dutch). While I didn’t master the art of riding my bicycle everywhere – in all weathers - I did spend eight years working in a private, British, international school educating 8 – 11 year olds from all around the world and leading my campus in the development and delivery of a high-quality English curriculum. Before that, I worked as a class teacher and Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator in a primary school in my home town in the North-East of England.
I am extremely passionate about the written word and the power it can have in enabling you to communicate effectively; to think creatively and to share your message with the world.
Working as a teacher equipped me with many skills. I am adept at being flexible, working as part of a bigger team and thinking creatively. If I can get 11 year olds excited about multi-clausal sentences, I feel that I can get anyone excited about almost anything… On top of these skills, I developed a good sense of humour working with the many personalities within a primary classroom!
‘Why the change from teacher to copywriter?’ I hear you ask…
In 2019, my husband and I lost our little boy when I was 22 weeks pregnant. Overnight, we went from excited expectant parents to grieving parents. When life throws something so heartbreaking at you, you have two choices: to fall apart and let the sadness define you or use the experience to reflect on life and move towards a brighter future – we chose the latter. For four years, we’ve been working towards a more intentional life hence the move to Italy and the career change for me.
Copywriting gives me the opportunity to use the words that I love so much every day; to work within fields that I am passionate about and to get my creative juices flowing daily while living intentionally and savouring the small moments in life.
Five Fun Facts:
I only buy bags that can fit a book in…and if my bag doesn’t fit a book, my coat pocket usually does. I read anywhere and everywhere.
I can’t eat onions, so it is my life’s mission to find an alternative in my cooking. So far, I’ve used lessons from the Italian cuisine, and I have started using celery and carrot as an excellent base for any sauce…
My celebrity crush is Mary Berry - her recipes never let me down; her style is second to none and I just want to eat cake and chat with her.
My dream is to have a home without any neighbours, with room for a vegetable patch and to give a home to an alpaca or two (and maybe a goat).
Family life and travel are the two things that feed my soul. I’m at my happiest when I have a trip to plan and I get to spend time with my little family.
