Italy
I’ve lived in bella Italia for a little while now. I’ve used Bergamo as inspiration for writing copy about the city itself and the places I enjoy visiting during a slow weekend or a mid-week treat.
I hope that my samples below make you not only want to work with me, but also entices you to visit this beautiful city.
Bergamo
A City of Two Halves
Ciao Bella!
Bergamo is a beautiful city found at the base of the Bergamo Alps.
What makes this city so unique? The combination of the medieval upper city, Città Alta, nestled within the surrounding rolling hills, and the lower city, Città Bassa, with its more modern feel.
As you walk around the Città Bassa, you will catch a glimpse of the striking old city on the hill - just to remind you that there is more to this glorious place.
Whether it’s a delicious meal, some retail therapy or a stroll around the cobbled streets, Bergamo has something for everyone.
Bergamo not only has the amenities of a city, but also access to beautiful nature walks and hikes because of its proximity to the Bergamo Alps (Alpi Orobie).
Want to experience more of what Bella Italia has to offer? Well, Bergamo is in an excellent location. It is well connected to Milan, Verona and Venice thanks to the A4 motorway; it has easy access to the idyllic lakes: Como, Iseo and Garda, and is close by to the third most used airport in Lombardy – Il Caravaggio International Airport.
Oh! Let’s not forget that Bergamo is the home of Stracciatella ice cream. What more do you need to convince you to visit?
So…now that you’re eager to come, we’ll see you soon!
Must Eats
A Big Plate of Freshly Made Tagliatelle Is Always a Good Idea.
La Tagliatella – the place to come for artisan quality, handmade pasta prepared in full view at the front of the restaurant.
Simple, but high-quality ingredients used for each dish offered on the menu.
The curved stone walls create a cosy atmosphere to the already welcoming restaurant.
The owner keeps the service simple with paper plates and wooden forks to keep the focus on the quality of the food. This adds to the atmosphere of the place and the passion that Sabastian has for the meals that he, and his staff, create.
Compton Café – The Home of the BEST Aperol Spritz In Town.
Why?
It’s served in a tall wine glass. No stumpy glasses here. The ice and slice of orange is fresh. It has the perfect balance between the bubbly prosecco, the bitterness of Aperol and a slosh of soda water. Oooh! It really is perfection.
If it’s too early for aperitivo, be sure to stop by for an early morning coffee and a pastry. The hissing and whistling of the coffee machine; the sumptuously filled bar of cakes and pastries and the quiet chatter of the locals sipping on their morning coffee are all underlined with the rhythmic notes of stylish jazz played in the background.
Compton Café is the perfect place for an early morning snack, a freshly made lunch or a stylish start to an evening.
Take a Seat at the Table at La Scagna
Want to eat amongst the locals? La Scagna will welcome you.
In local dialect, ‘la scagna’ means the chair – a symbol of hospitality – and this is exactly what you get when you visit.
La Scagna focuses on traditional Bergamasco culinary delights. Each dish feels like home.
The atmosphere of the restaurant adds to the homely feeling of the food, with traditional tables and chairs, the buzz of the coffee machine in the background and the delicious aromas drifting from the kitchen.
Don’t forget to book if you want to visit as this is the locals’ favourite lunch spot.
